Jerry Joe Vollmer, age 66, Osgood

Communities have their pillars, just as churches do—and Jerry Joe Vollmer was such a man. A tireless cheerleader for the town he loved and a consistent voice of faith, Jerry’s life was marked by service, integrity, and an unwavering belief in people.

Jerry was born on March 30, 1959, in Batesville, Indiana, the son of the late George and Martha (Wilson) Vollmer. He grew up just north of Osgood alongside his brothers and sisters and graduated from Jac-Cen-Del High School in 1977.

He found his life’s passions early. At just 18, Jerry began his career in insurance and on November 7, 1981, he married the love of his life, Anita Ahlrich, at the Osgood United Methodist Church. The couple purchased his grandparents’ homestead and made it their home for over 40 years.

Jerry was a born entrepreneur. He opened his first insurance office Vollmer Insurance near the Damm Theatre in downtown Osgood. As the business grew, he relocated several times, each move marking expansion and progress. In 1990, he continued growing his reach, eventually managing the entire insurance portfolio for MainSource Insurance for a decade. In 2011, recognizing a need in the market, he founded Voldico Insurance, a company that now supports agencies across the United States. Jerry loved mentoring others and found joy in helping people grow and succeed.

In keeping close to his roots, Jerry and his brothers continued farming together, proudly carrying on the traditions of the Vollmer family farm that had been worked for generations.

Jerry believed in fairness, honesty, and always treating people with respect. His dedication to Osgood was unmatched. He served in numerous civic and community roles including the Jaycees, Osgood Lions Club, Osgood Beautification Committee, and was a cadet with the Osgood Fire Department, he was instrumental in the consolidation of the elementary schools, and also contributed his leadership to the Economic Development Board and the Margaret Mary Community Foundation.

A man of deep faith, Jerry was a longtime deacon at Osgood First Baptist Church, where he served in nearly every capacity and taught Sunday School.

Above all, his greatest love was his family. Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He coached, mentored, and always offered a listening ear. Family vacations to Hilton Head were cherished traditions, and time spent with his grandchildren brought him immense joy. Another of Jerry’s heartfelt projects was supporting the music group 650 North whom he proudly promoted

Jerry will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Anita, daughter Reyna (Kyle) Dieckmann, son Andrew (Ali) Vollmer, and grandchildren Audrey Dieckmann, Lennox, Harrison, and Maxwell Vollmer. He is also survived by brothers John (Pamela) Vollmer and Robert (Elaine) Vollmer; sisters Rita (late-Stephen) Gookins and Linda (Myron) Kanning; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and an entire community who loved and respected him.
