It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet Sullivan, age 71 on January 12, 2023 at St. Andrews Health Campus, Batesville, Indiana. Janet was born on April 20, 1951 to Joseph E. and Germaine K. Sullivan in Evansville, Indiana. Stricken with polio at a young age, Janet faced many lifelong health challenges, and in despite this, she was able to enjoy a full life with family and friends. She attended Penn State University and worked with special needs children most of her adult life, in Boston Massachusetts and later at Batesville Middle School. This brought her much joy.
Despite multiple health challenges throughout her life, Janet consistently maintained a sharp and humorous wit until her passing. She had a major sweet tooth and loved nothing more than indulging in candy of all kinds. She didn’t mind sharing her treats with anyone in the room. The last few years of her life were spent at St. Andrews Health Campus, where staff loved and cared for her. She often bragged about and had extreme pride in her son Matthew’s successes in life.
Janet was predeceased in death by her loving parents, a sister Ann Sullivan, and her brother-in-law, James Grote. Janet is survived by her son Matthew Mukerjee, her siblings: Maureen A. Grote, Patricia M. Sullivan(John), James M. Sullivan(Deborah), William J. Sullivan(Suzanne), and several nieces and nephews.
Janet’s wishes were to be cremated and the family will have a private service at a later date.
Due to her close relationship with her great nephew Jimmy, Memorial Contributions can be made to Down’s Syndrome Association of Southeastern Indiana, Inc.
