James B. “Jim” Lecher

James B. Lecher passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, at St. Andrews Health Campus.  He was born on October 10, 1935, in Hamburg, In., to Peter and Anna (Schulte) Lecher.  Jim attended school in Hamburg.  He also served in the Army Reserves.

Jim began his lifelong career working at Batesville Casket, (Doll Plant) where he worked just a few months short of 47 years.

Jim was a simple and humble man.  He always found joy in the company of others.  He truly enjoyed being outdoors. He enjoyed some golfing and partaking in activities as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and VFW Post #3183.  Jim was a faithful member of St. Louis Catholic Church.

Jim is survived by one sister-in-law Joan Lecher, many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Leo, George, Norbert, William, Joseph, Harry, Herman, Edward and Paul along with two sisters Frieda and Ida Nobbe.

A special appreciation and gratitude go out to all of his caregivers and friends at St. Andrews Health Campus as well as Margaret Mary Hospice.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 7th, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville, Indiana.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Morris, Indiana with Fr. Suresh Ganta officiating. The burial will be held at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Batesville, Indiana.
