Breaking News out of Minnesota this morning as the Vikings and All-Pro Wide Receiver Justin Jefferson agreed to a 4-year, 140 million dollar deal. This deal makes Jefferson the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. What does this deal mean for Ja’Marr Chase and the Cincinnati Bengals? Chase did not show up for OTAs the last two weeks as he is, looking for a contract extension from the Bengals front office. Jefferson’s deal will only make Chase’s asking price higher. Chase has stated before he wants to be the highest-paid receiver in the league. With the salary cap gymnastics that teams can use in today’s NFL, it would make sense for Chase to get what he wants from Cincinnati.
The Bengals are already trying to figure out a contract situation with Tee Higgins who also missed OTAs as he has not signed his Franchise Tag tender. Earlier in the offseason, Higgins requested a trade from Cincinnati if they’re not willing to give him a long-term deal. With both players holding out for a new contract, Cincinnati is in quite a predicament and will probably look at the future with only one of their star receivers on their roster. If this situation does arise, Cincinnati should be looking to see what they can get in return for Tee Higgins from other franchises. Cincinnati, was able to reinforce their receiving corps in the draft by selecting Jermaine Burton out of Alabama in the third round.
