A man was killed after his buggy collided with another vehicle on Thursday night.
The crash occurred on U.S. 421 in Ripley County around 10:00 p.m.
The horse and buggy rig was operated by Daniel X Stoltzfus, approximately age 18, of Versailles. He was northbound on U.S. 421 when for unknown reasons, the buggy crossed over into the southbound lane.
The buggy was struck head on by a 2001 Ford F250 driven by 53-year-old Wilma Asher of Versailles. The impact killed the horse and ejected Stotlzfus into the northbound lane. Police say he may have been struck by one or two passing vehicles.
One of those vehicles was a 1999 Chevorlet Cavalier driven by 54-year-old Jeffrey Clippert of Madison and the second was a 2003 Pontiac SUV driven by 54-year-old Chester Swinney of Versailles.
No other drivers were injured. The crash remains under investigation.
