INDOT plans chip and seal operations on State Road 46 in Dearborn County next week

Dearborn County, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced plans to begin chip and seal operations on State Road 46 in Dearborn County Monday, June 12. The work is planned between State Road 1 and U.S. Highway 52.

Chip and seal is designed to extend pavement life and increase friction. Increased friction helps motorists maintain traction while driving.

Monday, June 19 crews will return to the section of roadway to apply a “fog seal.” The fog seal will lock in and additional protection against moisture intrusion into the pavement surface.

INDOT officials urge the public to watch for workers and equipment in the roadway and drive accordingly. Once materials are in place officials say following too closely can increase the vulnerability of vehicle damage due to flying stone chips.
