INDOT announces asphalt, slide correction work in southeastern Indiana

Aurora, In. — Indiana Department of Transportation officials and contractor representatives have established schedules for multiple operations required as part of a $6,939,150 asphalt resurface and slide correction contract targeting areas along U.S. Highway 50 in Dearborn County.

Dave O’Mara, the state’s contractor, will replace approximately 500 feet of pavement and moderate slopes on U.S. 50 near Stewart Street west of Aurora beginning in late-April.  Operations to correct existing hydroplane conditions at Trester Hill west of S.R. 350 should continue through May.  Motorists can anticipate single-lane traffic in both directions at the worksite.

The North Vernon contractor plans to mitigate the U.S. 50 King-Queen slide near Wilson Creek Road between Aurora and Lawrenceburg this summer and fall.  Sixty-six drilled shafts measuring 20 to 30 feet in length—42 feet in diameter—will be installed vertically at the erosion site between Burger King and Dairy Queen.  50- to 70-foot-long tie backs attached to bedrock will secure the concrete shafts. During mitigation operations, motorists on U.S. 50 will shift slightly to the north—with two lanes of traffic maintained in both directions.

Next year, six miles of U.S. 50 between S.R. 56/S.R. 350 and S.R. 1/Interstate 2-75 will be repaired and resurfaced under this contract.
