Local Resident Promoted to ISP First Sergeant

(Indianapolis, IN) – Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony M. Scott has announced the promotion of fellow local resident Sergeant Matthew J. “Joe” Loyd to the rank of First Sergeant.

Loyd will serve as an Internal Investigations Coordinator for the agency.

Loyd is a Greensburg native and 1999 graduate of Greensburg High School. In 2003, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from Indiana State University.

On October 24, 2004, he graduated from the 64th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was appointed as a Trooper and assigned to the ISP Versailles Post, where he served for more than seven years.

In 2012, Loyd was promoted to Detective to serve in Field Investigations at the Versailles Post.

In 2021, Loyd was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he served as an Investigative Squad Leader.

During his career, Loyd has served ISP as a Field Training Officer, Tactical Intervention Platoon, Hostage Crisis Negotiator, Special Investigations, and on the Homeland Security Task Force.

Loyd lived in Decatur County with his wife and children.
