Indiana Olympians Continue Strong Performances

PARIS–  At the Paris Olympics today, Rajeev Ram of Carmel and his doubles tennis partner Austin Krajicek advanced by defeating a Brazilian team.

Notre Dame men’s swimmer Chris Giuliano took part in the freestyle heats at a hundred meters, qualifying for the semifinals.  He was also on the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay team, with Drew Kibler of Carmel and Blake Pieroni from IU, their relay team qualifying for the medal finals in that event.  Also in the pool, IU’s Josh Matheny swam the 200-meter men’s breaststroke heats and made the semis.

One of the best-knowne Indiana Olympic athletes of recent years has been swimmer Lily King. The 27-year-old IU grad from Evansville didn’t do nearly as well as she wanted to in the 100-meter breaststroke final, however.  Lily finished 4th, only 1 one-hundredth of a second behind the bronze medalist from Ireland.  You may recall she won gold in 2016, and bronze the last time around, in 2021.  But Lily’s not done yet—  she competes again in the 200 breaststroke, Wednesday.

37-year-old Matt Anderson of Zionsville led the way early on for American men’s volleyball against Germany Tuesday, scoring 3 of the match’s first 4 points, including spiking the ball over the net for one and serving an ace for another.  Anderson topped Team USA with 6 points in the first set. But the match went more back & forth than the Americans  would like, and they finally had to score 6 straight points in the final set to put the Germans away.  The USA’s expected to have a tough match against Japan Friday.
