Guilford, IN — Indiana First Lady Janet Holcomb will be in Guilford this morning (Tuesday) to join the United States Postal Service (USPS) at a special first-day ceremony for the Snowy Beauty Forever Stamps.
The event will take place at 11 am in the pavilion at the Guilford Covered Bridge Park.
Mrs. Holcomb will be joined at the ceremony by Gregory Manchess, an author and award-winning illustrator whose original oil paintings are featured on the Snowy Beauty stamps.
Dearborn County Commissioner Jim Thatcher will deliver welcome comments to attendees.
Indiana District Manager Christi Johnson-Kennedy is the postal-dedicating official and Jay Bigalke, editor-in-chief of Linn’s Stamp News and Scott catalogs, will serve as emcee.
USPS will issue 10 Snowy Beauty Forever stamps in booklets of 20.
First Day of Issue special postmarks will have Guilford, IN as the official first-day location.
Art director Derry Noyes designed the stamps with original art by Manchess. The artist started with digital studies, then created the finished images with oils on the panel.
The set includes camellia, crocus, hellebore, winterberry, pansy, plum blossom, grape hyacinth, daffodil, ranunculus, and winter aconite, which is also on the booklet cover.
The Snowy Beauty stamps celebrate a season’s worth of blooming beauty.
“Snowy Beauty” is denominated a Forever stamp and always will be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price.
