The following are high school varsity (unless noted otherwise) baseball recaps from April 1-2. There may be updates, so please check back.
Class 3A No. 5 Batesville won its season opener with a 10-2 decision against Southwestern Hanover.
BHS starting pitcher Jacob Meer allowed no runs on one hit with eight strikeouts over four innings. Will Habig picked up a three-inning save. Jordan DeAtley took the loss for the Rebels.
For the Bulldogs, Zach Wade homered twice and singled with four RBI. Charlie Schebler had a pair of doubles and a single with two ribbies. Meer helped himself at the dish with a trio of hits and a run batted in and Travis Lecher drove in two runs.
Southwestern was limited to four hits. William Stockdale and Mason Lichlyter drove in the team’s only two runs.
Batesville also got great pitching and great hitting in a 17-nothing, five-inning shutout of Rising Sun. BHS put up a nine spot in the first.
Pitchers Dime Adams, Will Jaisle and Luke Wilson combined a one hitter. Adams was the starter and winner going three innings with three strikeouts against one hit.
At the plate, Travis Lecher, Max Baumer, Zach Wade, Jacob Meer and Jaisle all had two hits. Lecher drove in three runs, while Charlie Schebler, Wade, Meer and Jaisle all batted in two.
Dylan Martin lasted just one inning as the Shiner starter and took the loss. Braylon Williams had the team’s only hit.
Batesville’s C-team topped Lawrenceburg in a doubleheader. The Bulldogs lost the first game 11-10 with Landon Oldham and Carson Schneider both having multi-hit games.
BHS won game two 14-5. Alex Kreckler went 5-for-5 while Ethan Lacey, Schneider, and Alex Baumer all had multiple hits. Schnieder was the winning pitcher tossing four innings. Keegan Walke finished the final three.
North Decatur was a 10-0 winner over Brown County. Jacob Mirick pitched a one-hit shutout over five innings striking out 11.
ND jumped on BC early with seven runs. Nolan Burkhart, Ty Litmer, Zander Jones, Brayden Hancock, Nate O’Dell and Reid Messer were among the Charger offensive leaders.
Oldenburg broke open a close game with seven runs in the seventh inning to beat Cambridge City 18-8.
Cy Muckerhide and Frank Moorman both had three hits. Nick Folop, Nathan Schuman and Tyler Wuestefeld all had two hits. Schuman and Muckerhide both drove in four runs, Wuestefeld knocked in three while Jacob Hoff plated two.
