Hoosiers Rioter Hopes for Pardon

(Vancouver, B.C.) – Antony Vo is a man from Indiana who was charged and convicted for taking part in the January 6th Capitol riot in 2021.

Instead of reporting to serve his nine-month prison sentence, Vo applied for asylum in Canada where he currently resides … inside a holding cell at a detention center in British Columbia. Vo was arrested by Canadian authorities, ironically, on January 6 of this year.

“It’s the same thing that led to my charges and wrongful conviction in the U.S.,” Vo said over the phone to WISH-TV.

President Trump was sworn in for his second term as commander-in-chief on Monday. Leading up to his inauguration, Trump said he intended to pardon the people convicted of taking part in the Capitol riot four years ago. Vo is holding the president to his word and is hopeful to receive a pardon.

“According to his Time Magazine interview for Person of the Year, they asked him what he would do his first day,” Vo said. “(Trump) said he was going to pardon the January 6th prisoners, if not in the first few hours in the first five minutes.”

Trump made good on that word for some people convicted as a handful posted on X on Monday that they had received a pardon for their involvement in the riots. However, Vo has yet to obtain one.

Vo was arrested by the Canadian Border Services Agency just over two weeks ago. The agency says they have no record of him entering the country at an official port of entry. That means he could be in Canada illegally.

Vo has been denied a release from custody twice.

“These themes are pretty common throughout history. Through important people throughout history,” Vo said. “Jesus, the apostles, different political leaders. I consider it an honor and a blessing to be put in this position.”

Vo’s lawyer says if Trump grants his client a pardon he could then withdraw his asylum claim and possibly return to the U.S.
