Helen Marie (Johnson) Jackson, 90, of Greensburg passed away on January 2, 2021. She was born on July 20, 1930 in Rush County, the daughter of Hanley and Barbara (Hardin) Johnson. Helen was a graduate of Clarksburg High School and she attended Frankfort Pilgrim College. She was one of the Founders of Jackson’s Nursery, near Lake Santee. She worked in the Jackson’s Garden Center until she retired in 1990, after 35 years. Helen worked as a cook at the Clarksburg School. She was a founding member of the Free Methodist Church and later became a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School at both. She enjoyed growing African Violets, her Angel collection, and cooking. She crocheted and loved reading her Bible and other Godly books. Over the years she was able to sponsor 35 children up to the sixth grade in Haiti. Helen volunteered at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital and Hospice.
Survivors include: her son, Carl (Rhonda) Jackson Jr. of Greensburg; her daughters, Shirley (Rex) Hutchcraft of Grapevine, TX and Linda Gilbert of Greensburg; six grandchildren, Neil Jackson, Gene Jackson, John Cruz, Michael Cruz, Amy Miller and Carrie Briggs; and ten great grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Florence Eckart, Ada Batman, and Shirley Satterfield.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 9:00 am until the time of the funeral at 11:00 am.
