Batesville, In. — The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) promotes initiatives to keep families safe and healthy through the winter months. The program can bridge the gap during a crisis, pay energy bills or provide minor weatherization-related home repairs.

Indiana law prohibits investor-owned and municipal utilities from disconnecting customers during the winter months. The law does not apply to bulk fuel providers, water utilities, sewage disposal and telecommunications services.

Program statistics show $1.7 billion was spent to help less fortunate families in the United States.
