(Batesville, IN) — A long-awaited trail expansion is back underway in Batesville, with construction crews set to return to State Road 229 starting Monday.
Phase II of the city’s bike and pedestrian trail project kicks off April 6, bringing with it temporary lane closures along the northwest side of State Road 229, near the CVS pharmacy. Drivers heading southbound between the Interstate 74 Eastbound exit ramp and State Road 46 should expect to lose access to the right lane weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the construction period.
The project — first approved back in 2019 — is part of a broader push to build safer, more connected pathways for residents across the community. When fully complete, the trail will stretch along State Road 229 between Franklin Street and Six Pines Ranch Road.
City officials are asking for patience from commuters as work ramps up.
“We understand there will be temporary inconveniences, and at the same time, we are excited to see this important work continue,” the mayor’s office said in a statement released Thursday.
The entire project is expected to wrap up by November 2026, with construction being carried out in multiple phases to help minimize disruptions along the busy corridor.
