Harry Thielking Krieger, 89, Batesville

Harry Thielking Krieger passed away peacefully at his home in Batesville, Indiana, on Monday, October 13, 2025. He was 89 years old, just weeks shy of his 90th birthday.

Born on November 23, 1935, in Batesville, Harry was the son of the late Harry H. and Louise (Thielking) Krieger. A proud 1953 graduate of Batesville High School, he went on to spend his life rooted in the community and countryside where he was raised.

In 1959, Harry married Irene Davis at St. John’s Church (Huntersville Church). Their marriage spanned more than 60 years, and together they built a life centered on family and hard work. Irene survives, carrying with her the love and legacy of their partnership.

Harry was a dedicated farmer who spent his life tending the Krieger family farm, a farm that has been in the family for over 180 years. His love for farming was matched by joy in growing a bountiful vegetable garden and spending time in the outdoors, where he felt most at home. Harry was known for growing giant flavorful sweet potatoes and the pancakes he made on the weekend! In his later years, one of Harry’s greatest joys was sitting outside on the patio, enjoying the fresh air, peace, and quiet, and the beauty of the farm he loved so dearly.

In addition to farming, Harry worked for Hill-Rom for 35 years, retiring in 2000. Known for his strong work ethic and gentle spirit, Harry left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Above all, Harry cherished his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His warm smile, subtle sense of humor, and kind eyes brought comfort, laughter, and joy to generations of his family. He will be remembered dearly for his kindness, strength, and the twinkle in his eye that never faded.

Harry will be greatly missed by his wife, Irene; sons, John Krieger and Michael Krieger; daughters, Brenda Krieger, Bonita (Fred) Hellmich and Rebecca Krieger Cottingham (Michael); grandchildren, Paul Hellmich (Carolyn), Caitlin Shane (Bobby), Adam Hellmich (Kalissa) and Alexandra Cottingham; great grandchildren, Michael (Mickey), Patrick, and Aidan Hellmich, and Emma Hellmich.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Krieger, and beloved son, James Krieger.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 10 am to 1 pm, followed by a 1:00 pm funeral service, all to be held at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, with Rev. Shawn Crisman officiating. Burial will follow in the Rossburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rossburg Cemetery by bringing to the service or mailing to Meyers Funeral Home, PO Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
