Harry Gene Mockbee, 88 of Milan passed away April 15, 2017 at Dearborn County Hospital. Harry Gene was born in Dayton, Ohio on February 13, 1929 to Harry and Corrinne Fay (Miller) Mockbee. He married Lois (Fugate) Mockbee October 9, 1955 and she preceded him in death February 4, 2014. Harry Gene was a MP Army veteran stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He started out as a farmer, then the railroad, after he retired from Monsanto he worked for Butte Trucking. He was a long time member of the Dillsboro American Legion and also a member of the Milan American Legion. Harry Gene enjoyed watching TV Western shows, farming and taking care of his cattle, playing the guitar, took care of his wife, devoted brother and being involved with his grandchildren.
Gene is survived by daughters: Ruth (Rev. Gordon) Shinkle of Aurora; Nancy (Scott) Kohlmeier of Moores Hill; son: John (Belinda) Mockbee of Versailles;. 5 Grandchildren: James and David Shinkle, Jennifer Wullenweber, Matthew Steinmetz, Lacy Ward. 5 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one son: Kenneth E. Mockbee, brother: Gerald Walthers, 4- infant sisters, step-father: Wilbur Walthers.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM Tuesday April 18, 2017 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan with Harry’s son-in-law Rev. Gordon Shinkle of the Dearborn Baptist Church officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Milan American Legion Post #235. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Visitation will be Tuesday 10AM until time of service also at the funeral home. Memorials contributions may be given in his name to the “PAN” Patient Access Network Foundation or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
