St. Leon, IN – This afternoon, at approximately 1:30 pm, the Indiana State Police and Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle head on crash on State Road 1 near Zimmer Road in northern Dearborn County that claimed the life of a Guilford, Indiana man.
The initial investigation by Trp. Jacob Tolle, Indiana State Police-Versailles, Crash Reconstruction Team, indicated that a black 2006 Toyota passenger car being driven by George L. Reusch, age 84, Guilford, Indiana was traveling southbound on State Road 1 near Zimmer Road. For an unknown reason, Reusch’s vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a northbound white 2018 International truck pulling a box trailer, being driven by Stephen M. Cole, age 46, Louisville, Kentucky. The vehicles collided nearly head on in the northbound lane of State Road 1.
As a result of the collision, Reusch sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office. Cole was not injured in the collision.
Cole voluntarily submitted to a toxicology test at an area hospital although drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in this crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
Reusch’s family has been notified.
State Road 1 remained closed for approximately four hours for crash investigation and cleanup.
Trp. Tolle was assisted by Trp. Cameron McCreary and Sgt. David Meyer with the Indiana State Police. The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Miller-York Fire Department, Lawrenceburg Fire Department, and the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office also assisted at the scene.
