Greensburg, In. — Officials from the city of Greensburg say fundraising efforts for the one-day “Dog Park Preview” reached goal a week early and exceeded it by 30 percent. The goal was $2,500, residents were able to raise $3,215.
The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority will match up to $2,500. The matching program is exclusive to communities that are eligible for the CreatINg Stellar Places Program. Greensburg earned eligibility by being named a finalist for the 2017 Stellar Communities program.
Mayor Dan Manus reacted to the news of exceeding the goal stating “Residents expressed their opinions about the need for a dog park in the fall of last year and they have responded by donating to this effort. I’m happy that we can partner in implementing their vision and improve the quality of life for our community in alignment with the Stellar effort.”
The preview event will be held at Rebekah Park on Saturday, August 19 from 9 a.m. to noon. A temporary fence, pet play equipment and waste stations will be assembled so residents can see how a permanent dog park operates.
Lessons learned from the event will be used to improve a permanent off-leash dog park in Greensburg.
