On Monday evening, the Greensburg Junior High School (GJHS) Pirates competed in the EIAC Conference Championship at home. The GJHS Lady Pirates were runner-up conference champions, and the Greensburg Pirates boys’ team took 5th out of 8 complete teams.
In the girls’ race, Maria Scholle led from start to finish, winning the race in a time of 11:53. Hadley Davis took 3rd place overall in a time of 12:30. Sixth grader Ava Doig also made the all-EIAC team, taking 15th place in a time of 14:19. She was closely followed by Hayden Saylor, who took 18th place in a time of 14:28. Next for the Pirates was Isabelle Macku in 34th, Noelle Kern in 37th, and Sarita Walker in 38th. Violet Macku took 8th place in the JV results.
On the boys’ side, Kason Bedel led the Pirates with a 21st place finish and a time of 12:21. Next were Liam Hernandez and Miles Gill in 25th and 27th place, both with times of 12:35. Close behind were Easton Character in 31st place and Luke Harris in 33rd. Konnor Luers took 40th and Collin Rich was 58th to round out the Pirates top 7. In the JV results, Samuel Black took 14th, Preston Meadows 20th and Rylan Herpel 22nd.
The Pirates will conclude their season at the Middle School State Championships in Terre Haute on Saturday.
