Greensburg, IN—After the vote by the City Council to not fund the Greensburg Housing authority, a press release was issued as follows:
“As the Mayor was privately meeting with individual Council members prior to the Council meeting, representatives of Greensburg Housing Authority were speaking to representatives with Human Services. At this time, we were told that no representative from Human Services had contacted anyone regarding the matter GHA is facing.
Prior to the City Council meeting we were told by HUD, as of Monday February 3, 2020 if we were to close, we would transfer to the Indianapolis State Housing Agency. There has not been a decision currently to transfer the GHA program.
GHA is still seeking out the fundraising options to keep our program local without the backing or support of our City, however the community effort has been tremendous and noteworthy. We especially want to thank all out County Councilmen and women for taking the time to listen and understand what the facts of the situation are. We also want to thank our compassionate donors for their contributions and thoughts as well. We would like to extend a huge thank you to our citizens who attended the meeting to support us and our tenants on our program. ”
