George Meyer, age 83 of Hamburg, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2020. Born on July 24, 1936, he was the son of Carl and Mary Ann (nee: Gerling) Meyer. He married Dorothy “Dots” Moeller on June 22, 1960 and she preceded him in death April 9, 1999.
He is survived by sons Mike (Brenda) Meyer and Dan (Sandy) Meyer of Hamburg; daughters, Carla (Don) Kramer of Greensburg, Shelly (Rick) Prickel of Batesville; brothers Jim and Dennis Meyer of Batesville and Tom Meyer of Oldenburg as well as eleven grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers Larry Meyer and John Meyer (infant).
George was a lifelong member of St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg and later Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of the Knights of St. John Commandery #276, Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271, Hoosier Hills Car Club and Carpenters Union Local 60. He was a skilled carpenter for over 40 years working at Steinkamp’s, as a Construction Superintendent for Glenroy Construction Company, and later at Bruns & Gutzwiller, Inc.
Visitation will be Monday, January 13th, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14th, at Holy Family Church with Carl Langenderfer, OFM officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Hamburg with military honors conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to Oldenburg Conservation Club or St. Anne’s Cemetery Fund.
