(Greensburg, IN) – The Greensburg/Decatur County (GDC) Chamber of Commerce hosted its 40th Annual Summer Day of Golf “FUN”draiser last Friday at North Branch Golf Course.

Thirty-three teams were welcomed for a full day of networking, friendly competition, and community spirit.

New to this year’s event was the Phase Financial Helicopter Ball Drop, which brought a memorable and exciting start to the day.

Making the moment even more special, Fred Huser, a Vietnam Army veteran and the father-in-law of Kelby Owens, sponsor of the Helicopter Ball Drop, flew into North Branch Golf Course – marking the first time in 55 years that Huser had flown in a Huey helicopter since Vietnam.

As the helicopter hovered over the course, hundreds of numbered golf balls were released, each one aiming for the target below. The winning ball belonged to Lilly Corya, an intern with the Decatur County Community Foundation, who walked away with $1,222.50.

Golfers enjoyed a four-person scramble with contests throughout the course, sponsor-hosted holes, lunch, swag bags, and a 19th-hole celebration to close out the afternoon. Contests included longest drive, closest to the pin, and other creative challenges that kept players engaged and energized throughout the day.

Taking home first-place honors on the Bridge/Meadow Course were Nick Kirschner, Austin Seale, Peyton Buening, and Blake Nigg with RBSK Partners PC. On the Prairie/Meadow Course, the winning team was Randy Ellis, Mike Gudgeon, Jim Rowland, and Tim Brockman.

The golf outing is a fundraiser that supports the chamber’s mission to foster a positive business environment in Greensburg and Decatur County.

“This event continues to be one of our most anticipated traditions,” said Chamber Executive Director Dawn Lowe. “Celebrating 40 years of this outing is a true testament to the support of our members and the vibrancy of our business community. We’re especially grateful to all our sponsors, volunteers, and teams who helped make the day a success.”
