Freda Luke, 87, of Georgetown, Kentucky, formerly of Dillsboro, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Dover Manor in Georgetown. Freda was born Monday, October 26, 1931 in Ripley County, the daughter of Lue Roscoe and Alta Mae (Lanham) Hallgarth. She married Glenn F. Luke April 23, 1955 whom she spent her life on the farm with on Farmers Retreat Road until his death March 31, 2011. She was a homemaker and enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, baking, cooking, spending time with family and was an adult care provider for 10 plus years.
Freda is survived by sons: John (Joann) Luke of Georgetown, Kentucky and Denton “Denny” (Virna) Luke of Jacksonville, Florida; seven grandchildren: Jonathan, Anna, Alan, Jenna, Desi, Darby and Shannon; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Glenn; brothers: Orville, Charles and Ernest Hallgarth; and sister Ruby Jean Demaree.
A service celebrating her life will be held 1 PM Wednesday, October 16 at Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro with Pastor Charles Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro. Family and friends may gather to share and remember her 11 AM – 1 PM Wednesday also at the funeral home.
