Four Large-Item Pickups Planned

(Batesville, IN) – Batesville residents who use Rumpke for trash service will have four opportunities in 2026 to dispose of oversized household items during the city’s scheduled large garbage collection days.

According to the city, Rumpke will collect up to 10 large items per household on four Saturdays: February 7, May 2, August. 1 and November 7. Collection begins at 5 a.m., and residents are encouraged to place items curbside the evening before to avoid missing pickup.

Large garbage items are defined as materials too big to fit inside a standard trash container or weighing more than 75 pounds.

Accepted items include old clothing, upholstered furniture, mattresses and bedsprings that are wrapped in plastic, carpet pieces that are not rolled and weigh under 75 pounds, appliances such as washers and dryers, insulation, rubber hose, and empty, dry paint cans with dried paint.

Several materials will not be accepted during large-item collection. Prohibited items include electronics that contain mercury, such as televisions, computers, microwaves and cell phones; construction or remodeling materials; car body parts, wheels and tires; metal framing; tree limbs; yard waste; and landscaping materials.

Residents needing to dispose of electronic waste may take those items to the Batesville Area Recycle Center at 616 John St. A fee is charged for electronic drop-offs.

The recycling center is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Additional information is available by calling (812) 801-9099.
