Four arrested during traffic stop

Columbus, IN — Four people were arrested on felony charges during a traffic stop conducted by Columbus Police Department officers on Wednesday evening.

Wednesday evening officers stopped a vehicle for a minor violation near 17th Street and Union Street. The officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle, Kristopher D. Harris, 35, of Columbus and determined that his driver’s license was suspended. A police canine was requested and a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office deputy and her police service dog responded to the scene. A short time later, the canine alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, the officers located a glass smoking pipe containing methamphetamine, several syringes, marijuana and controlled substances along with a .22 caliber rifle between the driver’s door and seat.

Harris was taken into custody along with his passengers, Cory R. Crowe, 31, of Columbus; Winston C. Zink, 36, of Nashville, Indiana; and Samantha L. Banks, 46, of Columbus.

Kristopher Harris was charged on allegations of Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 Felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class A Misdemeanor), Possession of a Legend Drug (Level 6 Felony), Driving While Suspended with a Prior Conviction (Class A Misdemeanor).

Cory Crowe was charged on an allegation of Possession of a Syringe (Level 6 Felony).

Winston Zink was charged on allegations of Possession of a Syringe (Level 6 Felony), Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor).

Samantha Banks was charged on allegations of Possession of Marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class A Misdemeanor), Possession of a Syringe (Level 6 Felony).
