Foundations fund generator purchase for Batesville Fire & EMS

Batesville, In. — Thanks to the Rising Sun Regional Foundation and the John A. Hillenbrand Foundation Batesville Fire and Rescue has installed a backup generator.

The Rising Sun Regional Foundation donated $35,000 and the John A. Hillenbrand Foundation added $10,000 to make the purchase possible.

“This new generator is crucial for providing backup power and keeping the station operational especially in times of emergency or inclement weather,” Chief Todd Schutte said. “The previous generator was too small and inadequate to serve daily functions and we needed this to provide the best service for our citizens.”

The new generator will power the fire station and dispatch center whereas the original generator could only power the Radio Room and part of the operations center in the Memorial Building. Instead of 89 percent efficiency the new generator is 98 percent efficient and has a 20 year service life.

In addition to serving as the fire department for Batesville the facility is also the emergency operations center and the backup EOC for Ripley County.

Batesville Fire & EMS is a full-service fire and emergency medical service agency providing basic and advanced pre-hospital life support, fire prevention and education programs, fire suppression services, and vehicle extrication.
