Florence “Evans” Merkel, 87, of Milan formally of Moores Hill passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020. She was born to Joseph and Francis (Sehreibise) Jaehnen in Franklin County, Indiana on Thursday June 22, 1933. She was married Burton Evan on May 30, 1958 and he preceded her in death March 7, 1987 and she later married Thomas “Tom” Merkel August 18, 2001 and he preceded her in death January 11, 2017. Florence was employed at Mary Margaret Hospital and later at Hillenbrand. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg and she was very active in her church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, farm work, cooking, baking, spending time with her family.
Florence is survived by her sons: Ronald, Alton, and Roger Evans all of Moores Hill; step-children: Lois (Tom) Johannigman of Millhousen; Gary (Anita) Merkel of Oldenburg; 2 Grandchildren: Jedidiah Evans and Sarah Singer, 2 Great-Grandchildren: Noah and Elodie Singer; many nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren. Florence was preceded in death by her two husbands: Burton Evans and Thomas Merkel, one son: Ricky Jo Evans in 1978, 2 brothers, 4 sisters.
A celebration of life service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be given in honor of Florence to the South Sparta Cemetery.
