Florence “Betty” Rentschler Bonaventura, 98, of Dillsboro passed away Monday, November 23, 2020 at St. Elizabeth – Dearborn in Lawrenceburg. Betty was born Wednesday, September 20, 1922 in Middletown, Ohio, the daughter of the late Daisy (Woodhead) and Charles Jones. She married Joseph Bonaventura on June 10, 1970 and he preceded her in death on December 12, 2005. Betty was a member of the Dillsboro United Methodist Church since 1981, a member of the UMW, the 50 Plus Club, a past president of the local AARP, and a member of the local chapter of Homemakers. After raising her family, she retired in 1970 from the Travelers Insurance Company. She loved to read, garden, and sew, frequently making her own clothes. As a young girl she was in the Girl Scouts. Betty loved birds, singing, music and learning. She accomplished a lifelong dream of earning her GED at the age of 80 years old. She traveled a lot, seeing most of the United States and Puerto Rico.
Betty is survived by her sons: Jack (Carole) Rentschler of Loveland, Ohio, Thomas (Nancy) Rentschler of Houston, Texas, and Kenneth (Patricia) Rentschler of Dillsboro, Indiana; and Robin Bonaventura (friend Melissa Horning) of Cincinnati, Ohio; twelve grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daisy and Charles, husband Joe, brother George, and step-daughter Joy Jenkins.
A visitation will be held from 5 – 7:30 PM Friday, November 27, 2020 at Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home, 12887 Lenover Street, in Dillsboro. A service celebrating her life will be held at 10 AM Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Woodburn officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
