(Southeastern IN) – Southeastern Indiana was hit overnight by the first big snowfall of the season.

Roads and streets throughout the area were snow-covered and slick this morning, which led to a wreck on westbound I-74 west of St. Leon that had traffic at a standstill (pictured).

There were also a number of slide offs reported throughout the area.

Law enforcement and others were recommending that drivers stay off the roads, but cautioned if you have to be somewhere, extra time and slow speed were necessary. you’ll need to take it slow and allow extra time.

INDOT instituted a full call out Monday in anticipation of the bad weather.

If you are behind a snow plow, give them room. In other words, don’t crowd the plow.

If you’re curious about your county’s travel status, you can check it on the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s website.

We also have a link to it toward the top of our Closings, Cancellations and Delays page.

In addition, all area schools were closed today because of the inclement weather and resulting hazardous travel conditions.
