Fifty Years Since the Deadly Tornado Super Outbreak

(Southeastern IN) – It was 50 years ago today that the Super Outbreak of tornadoes left a path of death, injuries and destruction across the Tri State and other parts of the eastern U.S. and Canada.

Four people lost their lives when an F-4 tornado damaged or destroyed 90 percent of Hamburg.

What’s called a near F-5 twister produced damage to a farm near New Point.

Rural homes and barns in Decatur County were destroyed.

At least 17 people in the area were injured.

The Super Outbreak took place April 3-4, 1974.
