Ella Jean Simmermeyer, 87

Ella Jean Simmermeyer, 87, Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018. Jean was born in Batesville, IN on February 8, 1931, the daughter of Edward and Helen (Witkemper) Bruns. She was married to Thomas J. Simmermeyer on May 21, 1955 and he preceded her in death on September 7, 1999. Jean was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, who dedicated her life to helping family and friends and to serving her savior, Jesus Christ. She was a longtime resident of Greensburg, Ind., and member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She is survived by daughter Nancy Burns, daughter Janet and son-in-law Rick Markins, daughter Pam and son-in-law J.K. Murphy and son Tom and daughter-in-law Laurel Simmermeyer, many grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; son-in-law, Tom Burns; three brothers, Edward, Marlyn, and Lester Bruns; three sisters, Genevieve Bruns, Mildred Gehring, and Dolores Kellerman. In life, Jean was a stay at home mom known for her beautiful smile and a generous spirit of caring for others. She treasured spending time with the family and especially enjoyed the many family vacations to Destin, Fla. Family and friends will gather at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg to pray the rosary.   Visitation will follow at the church until the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.
