Elizabeth L. “Betty” Schneider, 86, Greensburg

Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Schneider, 86, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 15, 1939, in Greensburg, Indiana, Betty was the daughter of John and Agnes Nieman. She graduated from Greensburg High School in 1957. It was at a lively dance in Millhousen that she met her future husband, Lawrence Schneider. They were married in 1958 and together raised six children: David (Deborah, née Nobbe), Robert, Sister Kathy, Ronald (Amy, née Hoover), Michele (Andrew Laudick), and Jennifer (Peter Schneider). Her greatest joy came from her family, and she was a devoted mother, grandmother to 21 grandchildren, and great-grandmother to 25 great-grandchildren.

Betty spent most of her life as a homemaker, later working as a secretary for Hospice of Decatur County. Her green thumb was legendary — she took great pride and delight in tending to her flower gardens, often sharing their beauty with others. Flowers weren’t just a hobby for her; they were a symbol of the joy and color she brought to the world.

Betty had an adventurous spirit and a deep appreciation for life’s experiences. Whether exploring new places or taking in the beauty of a quiet garden, she embraced every moment with curiosity and gratitude. A devout Catholic, she found great meaning in traveling to sacred places such as Lourdes in France, the Vatican, and Assisi in Italy. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her actions and nurturing her generous spirit.

She also loved gathering with family and friends, hosting meals, and spending time with her dear lifelong friends playing dominos — always with a smile and warm heart.

She is survived by her six children, her brother John Nieman, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence; her siblings: Arthur, Maurice, Rosemarie, and Carl; her granddaughter, Leah Laudick; and her great-grandson, Abraham James Schneider.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. The Rosary will begin at 8:30 a.m., with visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In honor of Betty’s memory and her lifelong devotion to care and compassion, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
