Elisabeth (Betty) Ann Meyer, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, passed away on March 11, 2023. She was born October 27, 1927, daughter of Ben J. and Laura (Tebbe) Scheidler, and to stepmother Loretta (Moeller) Scheidler.
She was a lifelong resident of Greensburg, IN where she graduated from high school. She was married June 5, 1948 to Hubert W. Meyer, moving from the city to begin her life as a farm wife.
A bedrock of her life was her faith in God which sustained her throughout her life. She was a 50-year member of Delta Theta Tau sorority, Greensburg Country Club, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and later in life along with her husband was active at the Knights of Columbus. She touched many young lives as a 4-H adult Leader, teaching them the importance of doing ones best no matter what the task.
All of these aspects of Betty’s life were important, but none matched the love of her children-Diane, Steve, Ginny, and Rick. Betty enjoyed being present in their many activities from girls dress reviews, to sporting events, to cattle shows, and music recitals.
Betty loved her grandchildren and had boundless pride in the successes, not to mention the thrill of becoming a great grandmother of eleven adorable boys and girls.
One of Betty’s true passions beyond work and family lies squarely in her love of needlework. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, and crocheting, having crocheted over three hundred personal names. She also crocheted countless articles for the Daily News Cheer Fund. She was active in the Tuesday 500 card club and volunteering at the Decatur Co. Memorial Hospital gift shop.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Diane (Richard Critser), sister Ruth Knecht, and brother Herb J Scheidler.
She is survived by daughter Virginia (Paul) Gordon, sons Richard (Karen) Meyer, Stephen (Jo Ann) Meyer, eight grandchildren: Carla (Ted) Wiles, Kyle (Rachel) Critser, Stuart (Katie) Meyer, Alex ( Keely) Gordon, Brian Gordon, Adam Meyer (fiancé Jessi Hoffman), Dylan (Madison) Meyer, Suzanne (Bill) Moyer and eleven great grandchildren, son-in-law Richard Critser, sisters: Dorene Bruns and Carol (Rock) Effron and sister-in-law, Marge Eineman, brother-in-law Al Knecht and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Betty to the St Mary’s Building Fund or to The Bread of Life.
Family and friends will gather at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow until 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating.
