Elinor Platt French Richards, 94 of Greensburg, passed away on September 1, 2024. She was born on December 15, 1929 in Adams, Indiana the daughter of Earl and Ercil Hinkle Platt. Elinor was a 1947 graduate of St. Paul High School. She married Harold French on April 9, 1947 and together they had four children: John, Marcia, Lee Ann and Robert. On September 4, 1976 she married Dutch Richards and he preceded her in death. Elinor had previously worked as a Decatur County Deputy Treasure, Chief Clerk at the Water Office, and as a Bookkeeper at Union Bank. She volunteered at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Psi Iota Xi, Order of the Easter Star (Past Matron), the Greensburg Senior Citizens and the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, collecting dolls, bells and Angels. She loved to spend time with her family and to travel to see the world.
Survivors include: children, John (Sarah) French and Lee Ann (Brad) Barriger; son in law, Gerald Van Arsdall; daughter in law, Brenda French Dall; seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dutch Richards; son, Robert Dale French; daughter, Marcia E. Van Arsdall; grandson, Paul Edward French; brothers, Gilbert Platt, Merle Platt, Wayne Platt, Arthur Platt and Roland Platt.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral at 1:00 pm. Pastor Ted Chalk will be officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Robert French Memorial Scholarship Fund or to the United Methodist Church.
