Electric Co-op Youth to Visit D.C.

(Greensburg, IN) – The 2026 Indiana Youth Tour is planned for June 14-21, and organizers say it provides young Hoosiers the opportunity to visit the nation’s capital, experience American history, learn more about government and gain a better understanding about their electric cooperative.

According to Abby Asher, Senior Marketing and Communications Specialist with Decatur County REMC, Indiana will send a delegation of students from throughout the state. The students, selected by local electric cooperatives, will travel to Washington for the weeklong experience and convene with students from as many as 46 other states.

“Decatur County REMC is thrilled to offer this life-changing opportunity to local students,” said Asher. “The trip allows them to experience government up close, connect with other young leaders, and understand how they can make a real impact in their communities.”

Students participating in the trip will visit the Flight 93 Memorial, Gettysburg Battlefield, Arlington National Cemetery, National Museum of the Marine Corps or Army and Smithsonian museums.

Plans call for the delegation to also tour the National Mall memorials, meet new friends from across the country, and much more.

The Indiana Youth Tour students will also participate in a youth event hosted by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and spend a day on Capitol Hill, where they will have an opportunity to meet with Indiana’s congressional delegation to ask questions and share their thoughts on a variety of issues.
