(St. Leon, IN) – One of three East Central High School FFA teams that competed in the Indiana FFA Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event last Saturday at Franklin Community High School placed 1st and won a state title.
The team of Adam Miller, John Kathman, Kylee Starost, and Kody Schilling brought home the chapter’s eighth title in this event in the last 16 years.
The state championship team will compete in the National FFA Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event in Indianapolis in November.
A total of 12 East Central FFA members competed at the state event in Franklin.
The team of Julie Rider, Blake Wolf, Jasmin Keith, and Bradley Kolb placed second while the team of Dylan Weaver, Josilyn Tidwell, Aidan Roberts, and Dylan Watts came in third.
Starost was the top individual in the event; Watts placed 2nd, and Kolb was third overall.
All FFA members competing in this event are Landscape Management students at EC and the content for the contest was taught throughout the year in the course.
Members participated in a number of events consisting of a general knowledge exam, identification of ornamental plants, pests, diseases, disorders, landscape tools, equipment, and supplies, plant potting practicum, verbal customer assistance, and a team activity.
