Dorothy Helen Kirby, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:49 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2023 at her residence. She was born on August 23, 1939 in Decatur County, the daughter of Howard and Joeva M. (Hamilton) Pyles. She was born and raised in Decatur County, graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1958, then after her marriage, she resided in Jennings County. She had worked for 15 years at a nursing home in Columbus and at the Greensburg Carol Cooke Dress Factory for 5 years. Dorothy was a member of the Nebraska Church of God. She enjoyed reading, sewing and picture puzzles. She married Robert E. Kirby in North Vernon on June 22, 1961. He survives, along with her daughters; Vickie Kirby of Sherman, Texas and Karen (Damon) Broady of Hope; her sons, Rick (Patty) Kirby of Hope and Steve (Bobbi) Kirby of North Vernon; her sisters, Catherine (Bob) Fisher of Cleveland, Texas and Sharon Kirby of Huron; her sister-in-law, Paula Pyles of Westport; her five grandchildren and her eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brothers John and Raymond D. Pyles. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023 at the Nebraska Church of God with Pastor William Means officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport.
