Donald Lee Winters, age 69, of Brookville, Indiana died Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at his residence in Brookville.
Born February 20, 1951 in Hamilton, Ohio he was the son of the late George E. & Mary Ellen (Beard) Winters. On April 7, 1973 he and the former LuAnn Simmons were united in marriage and she survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Don worked commercial construction for over 25 years, prior to pursuing and committing full time to his love of farming. He was a member (and served on the board) of the Whitcomb United Methodist Church, a member and former officer of the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion, where he served on the Firing Squad; the Franklin County Antique Machinery Club, the VFW Auxiliary and the Franklin County H.O.B.O.S.
In his leisure time Don enjoyed the spending time outdoors, blacksmithing, spending time with friends and neighbors, and tinkering in his barn.
Besides LuAnn his loving wife of over 47 years, survivors include two children, Brian Winters of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Jodie Winters of Brookville, Indiana; two grandchildren, Owen and Evan; a sister, Deborah J. Winters of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Cecil D. (Nancy) Brown of Cedar Grove, Indiana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jason M. Winters who died April 18, 1978.
Family & friends may visit from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday, July 6, 2020 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
Rev. Steve Rundel, Pastor of the Whitcomb United Methodist Church, will officiate the Funeral Services on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, 11:00 A.M., at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial with full military graveside honors by his comrades at the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion will follow in Glen Haven Cemetery in Harrison, Ohio.
