Connersville, In. — Democrat Corinne Westerfield will challenge Republican state representative Cindy Ziemke in the November election in District 55. The Democrat Precinct Committee made the selection on June 30.
Westerfield is currently the Democratic Central Committee Vice Chair in Fayette County and Jackson Township Trustee, also a member of various community organizations. She has been married for 17 years and is the mother to two children, both with special needs. She notes her experience in working alongside citizens to find solutions regardless of their party affiliations.
As a current county trustee, Westerfield has expressed opposition to Ziemke’s recent proposed legislation to dissolve some townships based on population.
Corinne noted her upbringing as a Methodist taught her forgiveness. She noted that she can forgive Ziemke for coming after her job but she will not forget it. Westerfield said, “ I look at it this way, in 2017 Cindy Ziemke came for my job. In 2018, I’m coming for hers.” District 55 encompasses all of Fayette County and portions of Rush, Ripley, Franklin and Decatur counties.
