Decatur County Schools to stay virtual thru November 30

Greensburg, IN — Dr. Arthur Alunday, Decatur County Medical Officer has ordered the closure of all K-12 schools in Decatur County thru November 30th. The closure does not, however, forbid extra-curricular activities, such as the North Decatur regional football game, from occurring as long as they are done with proper safety procedures in place. Decatur County Community School Corporation Superintendent Dr. Jarrod Burns stated that all sporting events will take place with no fans and only essential personnel in attendance.

The order also allows administrators, teachers, staff, and vendors to be in the schools with appropriate guidelines for access and health practices. Greensburg Community School Corporation Superintendent Tom Hunter stated, “We understand the complexity of this decision and how it affects everyone differently. Please continue your support of Greensburg Schools and rely upon your building-specific communication for relevant updates.”

The tentative date of November 30 is said to be dependent on the status of the state infection rate and could change in the future.
