Decatur Co. Commissioners Consider Revised Biosolids Ordinance

(Greensburg, IN) – Decatur County Commissioners held first reading on a revised biosolids ordinance this week.

County Attorney Chad Smith presented the revamped ordinance, and says commissioners decided to make changes following public comments and additional research.

The revised ordinance calls for required testing of substances for a maximum PFA level of 50 micrograms per kilogram for anything spread.

The owner or supplier would pay for the testing – no exceptions.

Second reading will take place at the commissioners final meeting of 2024, which is set for December 16.

In other action, commissioners approved the Fair Committee members roster, which includes:

President – Kevin Crites, four year term;
Vice President – Mark Koors, two year term;
Treasurer – Mary Lou Davis, four year term
Secretary – Barb Waechter, two year term;
Scott Best, four year term;
Scott Smith, four year term;
Mark Hirt, two year term;
Jeremy Pasel, County Commissioner;
Danny Peters, County Council; and
Chris Ramey, At-Large.

Commissioners also approved the 2025 county holiday schedule. It includes 12 dates and the schedule follows state holidays.

Decatur County Commissioners will continue meeting the first Monday of the month at 6 p.m., and the third Monday of the month at 8 a.m.
