DEARBORN COUNTY, Ind. — The Dearborn County Solid Waste Management District announced it is receiving a $10,000 grant to combat cigarette litter in Dearborn County.
The center is one of 37 organizations to receive grant funding for 2017.
The Cigarette Litter Prevention Program, now in its 15th year, is the nation’s largest program aimed at reducing cigarette litter.
Communities that implemented the program in 2016 saw on average a 60% reduction in cigarette litter.
The Dearborn County Solid Waste Management District is working in conjunction with the Dearborn County Anti-Litter Initiative this summer to distribute cigarette receptacles to local communities in order to reduce cigarette butt litter.
Pocket and car ashtrays will be distributed at the Dearborn County 4-H and Community Fair, at farmers markets and other community events.
