(Greensburg, IN) – Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) is proud to announce that Dr. Jennifer Fletcher, a board-certified family physician, serving as the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of the Hospitalist Service at DCMH, received the 2025 Doc Hollywood Award on June 11, 2025, recognizing her outstanding commitment to delivering compassionate, expert care in rural Indiana.

The Doc Hollywood Award, given by the Indiana Rural Health Association (IRHA), celebrates an unsung hero who goes above and beyond to care for underserved populations in rural communities across the nation.

Honorees are recognized not only for their clinical excellence but also for the heart and humanity they bring to their work. Dr. Fletcher’s service to patients reflects her compassionate care, her leadership in the hospital setting, and her unwavering commitment to patients during their most vulnerable moments.

“The Doc Hollywood vision is about recognizing the many individuals who care professionally for folks in our rural and underserved communities,” said IRHA CEO Cara Veale, DHS, FACHE. “Dr. Fletcher is a true embodiment of what this award stands for. Her lifelong dedication to improving the health and well-being of rural Hoosiers is both inspiring and impactful.”

Dr. Fletcher also played a key role in establishing DCMH’s Wound Care Clinic, where she continues to provide specialized care for patients with chronic and complex wounds. From 2004 to 2018, she served as a primary care physician with Tree City Medical Partners, delivering comprehensive services — including obstetric care.

Dr. Fletcher has also been a long-time volunteer at the Free Health Clinic in Greensburg.

A respected leader within the hospital, Dr. Fletcher has held several prominent roles, including Vice Chief of Medical Staff, Secretary/Treasurer, and Chief of Medicine (2020–2024). She has served on numerous committees such as Medicine, Obstetrics, Health Information, and IT Implementation. Most recently, she led the DCMH’s Readmissions Reduction Team, underscoring her dedication to improving care outcomes and healthcare system efficiency.

Dr. Fletcher is an active member of both the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians, and she has represented Indiana as a delegate at the National Conference of Family Practice Residents. Her research has addressed critical public health issues, including unintended pregnancies and tools for assessing child abuse in clinical settings.

But Dr. Fletcher’s impact goes far beyond the walls of the hospital. She is an active voice in the community, most recently serving as a featured panelist and participant in a Lunch & Learn event with the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce and Purdue Extension-Decatur County. The event centered around food insecurity in Indiana and included a screening of Food, Insecure, a powerful documentary that highlighted the systemic causes of hunger in rural communities. Dr. Fletcher helped lead a community discussion on how healthcare intersects with food access and poverty, encouraging long-term solutions that go beyond traditional food assistance.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Fletcher enjoys outdoor activities, reading, playing softball, scrapbooking, and cooking—interests that contribute to her well-rounded and compassionate approach to patient care.

“Dr. Fletcher brings her full self to the work — not just as a physician, but as an advocate, a listener, and a community partner,” said Rex McKinney, President and CEO of DCMH. “Her presence ensures that our patients don’t have to travel to get the high-quality care they deserve. Expanding and protecting access to care in rural areas is one of our highest priorities, and Dr. Fletcher exemplifies what that looks like in action.”

Doc Hollywood Day is held annually to celebrate rural healthcare providers across the country. While it is a day of recognition and celebration, it also shines a light on the continued need for compassionate, skilled providers who are committed to serving rural and underserved populations.

Dr. Fletcher brings a wealth of experience in inpatient and outpatient care along with a deep passion for rural health to Decatur County and the surrounding areas. Her colleagues and patients alike describe her as empathetic, grounded, and fiercely dedicated.

Dr. Fletcher accepted the award during a special ceremony on Wednesday morning at the 27th Annual IRHA Rural Health Conference in French Lick. Colleagues, peers, and attendees celebrated this well-deserved recognition of her exceptional service and leadership. DCMH congratulates Dr. Fletcher on this well-earned honor and thanks her for being a steady, trusted presence in the lives of patients and families in our community.
