David V. Smith Sr., 78, Brookville

David V. Smith Sr., age 78 of Brookville, Indiana died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Born March 14, 1940 in Clay County, Kentucky he was the son of the late Rev. Cloyd & Mary (Mills) Smith. He was united in marriage to Laura Elaine Wells, and she survives.

David was retired, having worked in construction hanging drywall for much of his career; he also enjoyed farming and had farmed in Franklin County for many years. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, four wheeling, going to the sale barn, drinking coffee on his front porch, and spending time with his family; in particular teasing his grandchildren!

Survivors include his loving wife, Laura Elaine, six children, Louise Bargo of Grays, Kentucky, Kym (the late Roger) Grundy of Brookville, Indiana, Elaine (James) Olert of Kentucky; Connie (Jack) O’Neill of Brookville, Indiana Laura (Marty) Galyen of Brookville, Indiana and David (Charlene) Smith Jr. of Brookville, Indiana; three brothers, R.B. Smith of New Trenton, Indiana, George Smith of Barbourville, Kentucky, Johnny Smith of Hamilton, Ohio; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Jordan, Lena Mae Foster, and Vernice Smith; as well as three brothers, R.A. Smith, Ford Smith, and Arthur Smith; a grandson, Chance Galyen; two great-grandchildren, Ava Hale and Christian Wagers; son-in-law, Roger Grundy, and his mother-in-law, Dovie Wells.

Family & friends may visit from 4 until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Ave., Brookville.

Brother Mike Shackelford, Brother Clophas Shackelford and Brother Jim House will officiate the Funeral Services on Friday, April 27, 2018, 11:30 A.M. at Scipio United Baptist Church, 7999 Cincinnati-Brookville Road, Okeana, Ohio . Burial will follow at Springfield Cemetery in Bath, Indiana.
