David G. Cheek, 72, of Milan, Indiana, formerly of Flint, Michigan, passed away January 23, 2020 at his residence. David was born April 4, 1947 in Elkin, North Carolina, the son of Glenn and Jesse “Cleo” (Gilley) Cheek. David retired from General Motors where he worked in the management department. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. His hobbies included: snowmobiling, CB radios, motorcycles, line dancing, spending time with his horses, and going to car races. He especially loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; he also loved to talk sports with family and was a playful jokester.
David is survived by his mother, Jesse “Cleo” Cheek of North Carolina; long-time companion Mary Ann Boyd of Moores Hill; son Michael Cheek of Jersey City, New Jersey; daughter Cynthia “Cindy” (Gary) Carpenter of Clarksville, Tennessee; sisters: Kathy Sellers of Flint, Michigan and Janie (Spencer) Wooten of North Carolina; grandchildren Christy (Mike) Hunter and Michelle (Cesar) Thompson; and great grandchildren Scarlett and Natalie Thompson. He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Cheek and brother in-law Larry Sellers.
At the request of family, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in North Carolina at a later date.
