(Greensburg, IN) – Decatur County children will soon have access to an inclusive sensory garden at Greensburg Community Schools if a crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $10,000 by December 27, 2024.
If successful, the project led by the Decatur County Community Foundation will receive a matching grant as part of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s (IHCDA) CreatINg Places program.
“The addition of this special learning space has tremendous upside for students, families and teachers,” said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. “With the support of the community, this project will enhance the opportunities afforded to local children and will become a point of pride for Greensburg.”
Funds from this campaign will be used to create a sensory garden where children can learn, play and engage nature with each of their senses in a safe environment.
“We are excited to bring another program into Greensburg that allows children to work together towards total inclusion,” said Brendan Bridges, School Resource Officer at Greensburg Community Schools. “The sensory garden will allow students to learn how nature can provide for everyone to live healthy lifestyles. This project will benefit students at each grade level in Greensburg Community Schools.”
Since the CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $11.7 million in public funds and an additional $10 million in matching IHCDA funds.
The program is available to projects located in Indiana communities.
Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and local units of government are eligible to apply.
Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
