COVID-19 patient volumes continue upward trend at MMH

BATESVILLE, IN — Margaret Mary Health (MMH) officials say the hospital continues to see COVID-19 patient volumes increase heading into mid-December.

The hospital is encouraging asymptomatic patients who need to be tested for Covid-19, whether for known exposure, return to work, or travel and entertainment, to schedule an appointment at a local testing site through coronavirus.in.gov.

MMH currently has 29 patients on its Med/Surg floor, with five of those patients in the Special Care Unit and two on ventilators. Seventeen patients are COVID-positive, with 14 of those unvaccinated. The overall percentage of admitted patients since August 1 who were unvaccinated is holding steady at 86% (see charts for more details).

The ER continues to experience higher than anticipated patient volumes and patient acuity remains high. MMH’s supply of the monoclonal antibody therapies used to treat patients with a high risk for severe COVID-19 is also critically low.

The hospital’s COVID-19 testing volumes continue to see a high positivity rate, with 32.2% of patients tested since December 9 testing positive. In the last five days, MMH has had 69 confirmed positive patients. (See chart for testing details – please note the data on 12/13/21 is only accounting for five days instead of seven, as in previous weeks).

Everyone age 18 and older can receive the vaccine and are also recommended to receive a booster shot if it has been at least six months after completing the Pfizer or Moderna vaccination series, or at least two months after completing the Johnson & Johnson vaccination. Children ages 5 and older are eligible for an age-appropriate dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

Vaccine appointments can be scheduled Monday through Friday at the MMH Occupational Health and Wellness Center in Batesville by calling (812) 932-5105.

Vaccine appointments can also be made Monday through Friday at the Margaret Mary Health Center in Brookville by calling  (765) 647-5126.
