(Franklin County, IN) – Cooling centers are open in Franklin County to help you beat the heat this week, including the Brookville Senior Citizens Center, plus the Brookville and Laurel public libraries.
They’re open to anyone who needs to rest and cool off during the heat wave but you’re asked to bring your own snacks, drinks and entertainment.
If you need a ride to one of the cooling centers, call Franklin County Public Transportation at (765) 647-3509.
The cost to ride is $1.25 both ways if you live in Brookville and $2.50 each way if you live in the county.
Persons over the age of 60 ride free.
Meanwhile, you’re urged to take precautions during the extreme temperatures.
Heat exhaustion can happen to anyone, but the elderly and those who work outside are more susceptible.
Health officials advise you to stay hydrated and to know the signs and symptoms of heat stroke.
Also, never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.
