Greensburg, IN — A Greensburg man was sentenced to prison Thursday for a probation violation.
Dale Perkins Jr. received the sentence from Decatur Superior Court Judge Matthew Bailey for violating his original 13-year probation and home detention sentence stemming from two separate Level 5 felony cases.
Perkins invoked his right to have a fact-finding hearing, at which four witnesses testified against Perkins, and prosecutors used video and documented evidence in court detailing violations such as failed drug screenings, failure to submit to drug screenings, authorized movement while on GPS tracking, and committing a new crime.
Judge Bailey determined Perkins violated his home detention and probation conditions and sentenced him to 10 of the original 13 years in prison.
Decatur County Prosecutor Nate Harter praised the team of public safety officials involved in these cases, including Decatur County Director of Court Services Abby Harry, case managers Dustin Barkdull and Mike Woodhull, Field Officer Mike Burnett, Decatur County Sheriff’s Deputy Pat Richards, and Prosecutor’s Investigator Pete Tressler, and Deputy Prosecutor Brian Clark.
“When offenders are put on probation or home detention, they are avoiding jail or prison. In return for that gift, we as a community have the right to expect them to follow the law and the conditions of their supervision,” Harter said. “We must hold them accountable when they fail, or else we condemn them to follow their old, broken ways.”
